The Thompson's Est. 12/20/2003

This is the site of Jennifer and Keith Thompson. Their romance began their Junior Year of high school (1993)and ended up in marriage on December 20, 2003. Throughout their 10 year (OMG! 10 years?!?!?) courtship, they grew apart, and then together, and then apart and then (oh, well you get the drift)…… but in the end, a wonderful romantic friendship turned into a strong partnership that they both believed, would stand the test of time. And then....came Avery Grace :)

A Walk Down Memory Lane

20 years ago I…… (1987)

1.) Was 9 years old and in 4th grade! At this age, my sister Rae was five and my sister Bre was one. Whew! This must have been a tough year for my parents!
2.) Attended Catholic Grammar School at St. Theodore. I wish I could remember my teacher’s name……but 4th grade was seemingly an uneventful year. I remember my 3rd and 5th grade teacher’s name, but not my 4th L
3.) Was an active member of the Girl Scouts. My mother was the leader and we had meetings in our basement of our city home. I remember liking it, but really LOVING the camping trips! Also- I never got homesick like the other girls, because my mom was always on the campouts with me.
4.) I loved music and reading. Guns and Roses were my favorite! Ironically, I also enjoyed NKOTB!!! Joey was my fave and I went to the concert (not sure if it was this year or next). Also- I loved the Babysitter’s Club book series. I would read an entire book in a weekend. I remember my mom and dad having to coerce me out of my room at times as I usually had my nose in a book.

10 years ago I….. (1997)

1.) Completed my freshman year at SUNY B-port. I can’t believe I passed! College truly was the start of my life as I know it. I LOVED college!!!! I just remember really shining and my personality came through…..I was allowed to “be”.
2.) Broke up with my high school boyfriend, Keith. *tear* I never thought we would get back together! (Ha! Who knew???).
3.) Worked as an assistant manager at a tiny Bill Gray's-type local restaurant in Spencerport. I LOVED that job! My bosses were awesome!
4.) Got my first and only tattoo!!! What a rebel!

3 years ago I……(2004)

1.) Started working as an outpatient social worker for a large health system in Rochester, NY while completing my Masters Degree in Social Work at UB. (Whew! That was a tough year!!!). Might I add…..this was ONE MONTH after I got married to Keith Thompson (that nice boyfriend that I broke up with in 1997).
2.) Adopted a gentle soul of a Rottweiler doggie named Shilo from Lollypop Farm. What a blessing she has been to us! The Thompson’s little city apartment, became a household of 3.
3.) Was heartbroken when I saw my husband in so much pain after losing his father suddenly in November. I also discovered how amazing friends and family can be in the midst of tragedy. I will always remember my best friend going out to Target to purchase me some “unmentionables” for the funeral as I had no energy to do laundry. I love you Luce!

1 year ago I…… (2006)

1.) Gave birth to my beautiful and resilient daughter Avery Grace. She is truly the light of my world. Avery, you have truly made your mother a better person. I love you!
2.) Felt what it means to be absolutely and completely SLEEP DEPRIVED.
3.) Fell in love with my husband, whom now is called “daddy”, all over again.

This year I……. (2007)

1.) Am learning what it means to “come into myself” all over again. I feel as though, although the same “Jenn”, I have had to find balance within myself in my new role as a mother. It is challenging! Sometimes I feel as though I am doing a great job, and at the same time, feel as though I am failing miserably!
2.) Know what it means to long for those 15 minutes of quiet and serenity that I used to have in abundance before motherhood……I used to think people were silly to even think they didn’t have 15 minutes to themselves. Ha! I was so wrong!
3.) Am trying to “give myself a break”. I work full time, take care of an almost-one-year-old and do not have family that is able to help with child care very often. SOOO……I need to chill (ie: dog hair is OK sometimes, dishes can be left in the sink from time to time, 10 pounds will be lost at some point, laundry can be left in laundry baskets some days…..it’s clean….that’s a bonus! Etc…etc..). Patience, Thompson, Patience!

Yesterday I…….

1.) Worked a 10 ½ hour day, picked up my daughter from the sitter, fed her dinner (gobbled down some of my own…..which I ended up with heartburn for gobbling so FAST) and then attended my nephew’s soccer game.
2.) Listened to my daughter laugh UNCONTROLLABLY for at least a half hour after dinner-time. She was in such a silly mood. It was music to my ears and my stomach hurt afterwards! What a blessing!
3.) Collapsed on the couch at 9:15pm, exhausted after a FULL day ( I wake up at 5:15am).

Tomorrow I will…..

1.) Enjoy the company of family and friends at a 4th of July picnic hosted by yours truly.
2.) Soak up the SUN!!!! (per Sheryl Crow)
3.) Kiss my husband and daughter, hug my friends and family, rub my grandfather’s bald head!!!!

In the next year I will…..

1.) Take better care of myself!!!!!! I miss that. I hate seeing ROOTS when I look in the mirror. I hate the fact that my feet are “unpedicured” and it’s JULY!!! I hate that I do not exercise regularly and I hate that I care so much about what my daughter puts in her mouth but I do not care as much about what I eat on a daily basis.
2.) Attempt to become more involved in my church. I have said this before but now that Avery is one and can participate more in church activities, I feel as though I am being called to do more at Spiritus.
3.) Spend more time and energy on finding out what will make me HAPPY!!!!
